James Means' large model Soaring Machine was first flown at Boston, Massachusetts, in November of 1893. The pendulum device was meant to provide a form of automatic pitch stability and actually worked quite well. If anyone should build this Soaring Machine and experiment with it, please send thoughts and observations to Carroll Gray. Please note James Means' prophetic comment at the end of the instructions regarding the probable adoption of "aerocurves" (curved wing sections) rather than "aeroplanes" (flat wings). Building and flying this 112 year-old aerial contrivance should make for an interesting time.
