Before going to see Mr. Devine we went to see Mr. Andrew Caughey, 3328 Dawson Street, who said he had lived in the vicinity only 20 years and did not recall anything of the Whitehead incident. His wife had lived in the vicinity since a small girl but could not recall anything about it. She gave me the names of several people whom she thought might know about it. I also stopped at the house of Dr. John R. Owens, 3337 Dawson Street, but found I had missed him by about a half an hour; he had gone out of town not to return until the following Monday. We then went to see Mr. Devine.
